The standard literature! The rich worldwide tradition of orchestral music touches almost every country on earth. From school orchestras and community orchestras to full time professional ensembles of every size we pay homage to hund reds of years of music.
This is music that unites the entire world. This is music that has been written for kings, deities, the common man, and for every type of occasion. Program music (i.e. Mahler etc.) and non program music (i.e. Bach etc.) both share the grand stage.
When asked how he knew the music he was performing was good, a very young musician said of Beethoven: "No matter how hard we try to kill him we just can't." The perseverance of this music is a testament to its value for all of us. Through the good times and the bad we have only to turn to the classics for solace.
Maestro Mitsumoto has been an interpreter of the standard literature throughout his career. From his student days at Tokyo University, The Paris Conservatory, and with Gregor Piatigorsky and throughout his professional travels the standard literature has been the foundation of his craft.
