The glory and glamour of Hollywood provide the inspiration for this glittering, multifaceted evening.
Grauman's Chinese Theater
Guests are greeted by 2 to 20 heralding trumpets with corporate banners to signal the start of the evening (these corporate banners are excellent for framing after the event). Placed at the entrance of the ballroom, Sid Mann's Grauman's Chinese Theater is a Hollywood landmark not to be left out of a nostalgic look at the movies. This 14' x 25' area consists of a colorful facade of the front of the theater, red carpet, gold stanchions, and velvet rope, plus two 4' x 6' replicas of the legendary sidewalk in front of Grauman's. Guests will enjoy "reading" the sidewalks, seeing handprints, footprints, and autographs of Hollywood greats. Potted palms and spotlights complete this wonderful re-creation of a familiar Hollywood scene.
Bar Decor: All bars will be backed with panels of white trellis covered with movie posters. Stars will be put on the wall of the bars, and potted palms added to enhance the setting.
Vignettes
In appropriate places throughout the room will be placed behind-the-scenes glimpses of famous movie sets or dressing rooms. Each vignette will be colorfully surrounded with movie camera props, clap boards, and back lot lights with greenery. The following suggested sets create a balance of glamour, authenticity, humor, and interaction.
John Wayne Set:
The essence of John Wayne is captured in this Western back lot scene. Wagon wheels, building facades, hay bales, rustic fencing, milk cans, western street lights, an old buggy, and stage depot add authenticity to the scene. A large black and white drawing of John Wayne and a board of pictures of western stars will be enjoyed by your guests. Directors' chairs, movie lights, and a megaphone bring to mind "Lights, Camera, Action". The set is lit to give the appearance of sunset. A live fast-draw artist will give displays of his expertise with a cowboy mannequin. To enhance the area, a John Wayne look-alike will be available for a photo opportunity. Quick change garb to costume guests for photo would include western hats, bandanna, handlebar mustache and sheriff's badges for the men and dance hall garb for the women. John Wayne would give away horseshoe key chains as mementos.
Horror Set:
This parody of a horror movie set includes a scary haunted house, a self-opening and closing coffin, complete with corpse, skeletons, a headless organist, and, of course, the real Frankenstein monster to lend the final touch.
In addition, our very good-looking Dracula would be available with Frankenstein for a photo opportunity. For guest photos, we would provide costumes such as masks, capes, wigs, bloody hands, etc. Dracula would bite guests' necks and leave two red tooth marks. He would also hand out black roses to the ladies. Frankenstein will hand out waxed teeth for the men, and all guests visiting the area will receive liquid light sticks.
Gone With the Wind Set:
This beautiful southern mansion facade would include magnolia trees in blossom and covered with Spanish moss. In the background is the silhouette of an old riverboat. We would provide a Director to coach couples in their screen test for a starring role as Scarlet and Rhett in our movie, with lines such as "Frankly Scarlet, I don't give a damn". This could be a still photo opportunity or we could set up a video crew to compile a tape of screen tests to be viewed at a later date.
Costumes for the screen test would include tall beaver hats, Civil War hats, string ties, long sideburns and mustaches for the men. The women would have use of a velvet cape, fans, and magnolia blossoms for their hair. Giveaways would include Confederate money and a Confederate flag.
Surf's Up:
This beach scene features a canvas surf and sand backdrop that is integrated with real sand, sand pails, shovels, and beach balls. Also included is a lifeguard stand, an umbrella, surfboard and rafts. To enhance the area, models in yellow polka dot bikinis would play ping pong and interact with guests on the table we will provide. The scene would be lit very brightly like sunlight. Game booths could also be made available in this area. Booth ideas include: Balloon Darts, Milk Bottle Toss, Six Ball Roll Down and Wheel of Fortune.
Marilyn Monroe's Dressing Room:
A Marilyn Monroe (mannequin) sits at her dressing table waiting to be called to the set. Joe DiMaggio has left roses and a message on the mirror. The walls of her dressing room are covered with pictures of movie stars. Pink movie lights and a potted palm complete the scene. This act is brightly lit to give the effect of make up lights. Periodically and subtly, the mannequin will be replaced by a live Marilyn Monroe "Lookalike" who will smile, throw kisses and red roses and mingle with the guests.
Ben Hur:
Charlton Heston and the Coliseum aren't there, but the Roman columns, the bench and balustrades, the busts of Julius Caesar and Brutus, and a life-size chariot are all authentic props used in the movie "Ben Hur". A beautiful model in Cleopatra attire munches on grapes and shares clusters with the guests.
Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom:
Massive crumbling columns and rain forest vegetation form the exotic backdrop for this scene. Evil snakes are lurking everywhere, and a sinister native is peering through the greenery which is laden with orchids and other rare blossoms. A Harrison Ford "Lookalike" stands fearlessly next to a treasure chest. A live bird show with tropical birds is presented periodically. Jungle sounds add to the mystique. Giveaways would be miniature shrunken heads.
Stage:
Stage area will be backed by black drapery with a shining silver sparkle overlay, enhanced by the famous Hollywood sign and chasing rope lights. Side panels of silver curtain will back giant glitter film reels, and silver palm trees will complete the glamorous backdrop.
